On December 23, 2003, John Buckman decided to discontinue distributing the interview. This is fine with me because it is compliant with my license (my license never compelled him to continue distributing the interview for any length of time). I'd like to note that he is doing the right thing by complying with my license. It is unfortunate that apparently he chose to discontinue distributing a copy of the interview he could have legally distributed in perpetuity had he abided by my remarkably liberal license. Perhaps the sound file format issue was more significant for him than I had known.

The problems described on the page that used to be here still exist for other copyright holders and you should be wary before dealing with anyone who doesn't respect your license (particularly when you allow verbatim distribution in any medium). As a result of my experience with John Buckman of Magnatune, I'm hesitant to believe everything there is licensed properly.

Update (2007-05-20): Having heard of no copyright problems with Magnatune, I have decided to give Magnatune another chance. I'll recommend Magnatune to others, and share Magnatune tracks that are licensed to share (at this time their entire catalog is licensed to share). I've written a blog entry on Digital Citizen where I recommend checking out their catalog in order to avoid recent problems with the cost of broadcasting online.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
